Fixed Limit Poker Strategy
For no-limit players who are trying to pick up the game of limit, be aware, it is a completely different game and requires a different strategy.  Every great fixed limit poker player has a strategy that focus's on one thing...pot odds.

There are many advantages and disadvantages of these two games.  When you flop a good draw in limit, it isn't going to cost you too much money to see if you can hit it.  Conversely, if you flop a strong hand, you can't bet the draws out of the hand like you can in no-limit.

Also, the structured betting allows you to escape from a hand if you get rivered.  You are not going to be forced into a tough decision for all of your chips, and you can be confident that if you make a call, the players behind you can't raise you out of the pot.

The one concept that most poker players can't completely pick up on is pot odds, and it is extremely prevalent when playing limit.  The majority of the people you will see in a low limit game will call pre flop with any two cards.  Whether there are 3 bets in the pot or 9 bets in the pot, you are going to see a lot of players involved in each hand.  This is where you can gain an advantage on the other players.

If you get dealt a great drawing hand like 78 of hearts, then it will be easy to just limp in and see a flop. Also, just like in no limit, if there is a raise re-raise in front of you, it would be best to lay it down.

The best way to play limit poker is super aggressive when you have a strong hand and passive when you have a good draw.  It is extremely hard to bluff at someone in a limit game, and most of the players aren't going to be paying attention to your betting styles.  But if you flop a strong hand, say top two pair or a set, you want to make the draws pay for there outs,  and you want to extract as many bets out of the other players as possible.  The number one rule in limit is don't ever slow play.

So to wrap it up: If you’re playing high limit or low limit, remember these fixed limit poker strategy tips

1. Limit is easy to see if you can hit your draws.
2. Make sure pot odds are always a factor in limit.
3. Don't slow play anything.**
4. Protect your big hands, but know when your beat.

**There is one exception to that rule, and that is when you flop a monster.  Sometimes it is best to just check or call allowing others to get that draw on the turn.  Then you raise them, that way you are getting more money out of your raise as opposed to if you raised them on the flop, they might check fold on the turn because they know you have a hand, but if you wait till the turn, they might think they have the best hand and even re-raise you because you allowed them to hit their draw.
