Poker Shootout Tournament Strategy
A Poker shootout tournament is a tournament where a set number of
players join (usually in multiples of nine) and you finish the table out
to move on. If there is 81 players in a shootout, then you would start
with nine tables with nine people at each. Each table will be
played out to its entirety and the winner of each table will go to the
final table.
Since it is just like playing a Sit-n-Go tournament, you
should play it just like this. The only difference is your number one
focus is to win your first table not just try to make the top three.
Your strategy should be very selective aggressive, playing more hands
then normal. The only reason is if you don't accumulate chips from
the very beginning, you are going to fall behind. Stealing blinds is a
great way to help stay on top of the table. Make sure when you are given
pot odds on your draws to take them.
You have to remember that if you don't win your first table, you don't
make any money. So you have to focus all your attention on this. Once
you win your first table, you are now most likely to be at the final
table.
Since most shootouts are satellites, the payouts are
dismal unless you come in first. So once again you must be the last
standing at your table. Since you are likely to at least get your money
back for making the final table, your strategy should be a little
tighter. Choose your spots, and attack. Blind stealing is again a great
way to stay afloat.
